Owen Gray is a Jamaican singer and songwriter who was born on July 5, 1939, in Kingston, Jamaica. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of Jamaican music and is known for his contribution to the development of the ska and rocksteady genres. Gray started his musical career in the 1950s and gained fame with his hit single "Please Let Me Go" in 1960. He continued to release successful songs and albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s, working with producers such as Clement "Coxsone" Dodd and Duke Reid. Gray is also known for his collaboration with the British band UB40 on their 1983 version of his hit song "The Train is Coming." He has been awarded numerous awards for his contribution to Jamaican music and was inducted into the Jamaican Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
